14th Annual Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship Training

July 14 - 27, 2019

The Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship addresses historical and contemporary sexuality issues and emerging best practice in policy and programming for sexual well-being in Africa. The curriculum focuses on sexuality, sexual health and rights, sexual diversity, pleasure, HIV/AIDS and vulnerabilities, gender and violence against women.

Amzat Jimoh holds a Masters degree in Medical Sociology from the University of Ibadan and is presently working on his PhD. He is an Assistant Lecturer at the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto and his research interests are Health Sociology, Development Studies and Social problems. He has participated in field research in sexuality and also written papers. He was a Principal Investigator in the Reproductive Health Issues Among Street Adolescent Almajirai project.

Project Title: "Awareness of HIV/AIDS And Negotiation For Sexual Rights Among Women In Purdah In Sokoto Metropolis".

 

Musatafa Anas Shettima holds B. Agriculture in Crop Production. Presently, he is the Executive Director of Partnership For Health (PHD). He was also the sate Coordinator for Youth Network On HIV/AIDS, Population and Development In Nigeria (NYNETHA).

Project Title: "Baseline Survey To Determine The Sexual Health And Needs Of Youths Age 15 - 24 Years in 2 targeted Communities In Northern Borno State"

 

Mohammed Musa Bello holds an MBBS from Bayero University Kano. Presently he works as a Registrar at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital , Kano. Prior to this, he was a Medical Officer at the Society For Women and AIDS in Africa , Nigerian Chapter (SWAAN). He has also worked as a Programme Officer for Reproductive Health for the Youth Society for Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) which is a youth NGO in Northern Nigeria.

Project Title: "Understanding The Sexual And Reproductive Health Problems Of People Living With HIV/AIDS. A Case Study Of Kano State"

 

Ugwuegbu Chinyereugo Adaukwu holds a B.A in English Language. Presently she works as a Presenter for Radio Nigeria, where she reports health related issues as well as issues on HIV/AIDS. She has also been involved in different programmes and workshops organized by NGOs, CSOs and other organizations involved in health related issues like the FCT ACTION COMMITTEE ON AIDS,ENHANSE interviews and DEVCOMS where she has been working on issues on sexuality and sexual rights with reports carried out to create information and investigate into this. She has also received training on reporting health issues to help society.

Ajayi Folashade Rebecca holds a BSc in Business Administration from Abia State University. Presently, she works as a Business Development Manager for Focus Concept in Lagos; where she carries out research on sexuality issues, organizes sexuality related seminars and develops projects. She has spoken publicly on topic like, "Lets Talk About Sex", "The Strength Of A Woman", "Pleasurable Sex", "The Importance Of Sexual Education And Information", and "The Gift Of Virginity." She has published a sexuality magazine titles "Behind The Door."

Mohammed Durosinlorun Amina holds an MBBS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Presently she is a senior medical Officer at Kaduna Polytechnic where she consults on Obstetrics and Gynecology related issues along with research and public enlightenment on current health issues. Prior to this, she was a Senior Registrar at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching hospital.

Project Title: "Perception, Use and Effects Of Traditional Aphrodisiacs (Kayan Mata) Among Women In the North"

 

Dudu Egbemudia Johnson holds an M.Sc in Population Studies from the University of Benin. He is currently a Programme Administrator of the Programme: "HIV Prevention for Rural Youths in Nigeria"- a partnership programme sponsored by Global Health Research Initiative, through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Health Canada (HC) and International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada where University of Windsor, Canada, University of Benin, Action Health Incorporated (AHI), Lagos - Nigeria and Centre for Population and Environmental Development (CPED), Benin City- Edo State Nigeria are collaborating.

Dalya Elziny Moustafa holds an MPH in Public Health from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon and a Medical Degree from Mansoura faculty of Medicine, Egypt. She worked as an Awareness consultant at Rene Moawad Foundation in Beirut for ACCESS - MENA project. She also worked as a general practitioner Physician for the Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt.

Mansour Ali El - Sayed holds a Masters Degree in Public Health and Community Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine Al-Azhar. Presently he works as an Assistant Lecturer at the faculty of Medicine, Az- Ahar University. Prior to this, he worked as a House Officer at the Ministry of Health in Menofyia.

Project Title: "Islamiya & Sexuality Health of Health of Married Female Adolescents in Hotoro Northern Nigeria."

 

Eassi Lotfy Fahmy holds a Masters Degree in Public Health and Community Medicine. Presently, he is an Assistant Lecturer at the faculty Of Medicine Al Azhar University, Egypt. Prior to this, he was a House Officer at Al-Azhar University Hospitals in Cairo. He also worked as a Demonstrator of Public Health and Community Medicine and also as an Assistant Lecturer of Public Health and Community Medicine at the Public Health and Community Medicine, Al- Azhar University.

Project Title: "Project: Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Regarding Female Genital Mutilation among University Students in Egypt"

 

Azer Mina Tharwat holds a Medical Degree in Medicine and Surgery from Mansoura faculty of Medicine, Egypt. Presently, he works as Trainer of Peer educators in the HIV/AIDS sector and as a Counselor in caritas Voluntary Counseling and Testing Centre, Egypt. He is also a certified Y-Peer Educator.

Njorge Tabitha Warimu holds Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the University of Nairobi. Presently she is the Executive Director for the Women in Law and Development in Africa (WILDAF) Kenya. Prior to this she was a Programme Officer at the same organization and was once a National Researcher at Peace Tree Network (PTN) Africa in Nairobi.

Project Title:"Understanding the Situation of Sexual Violence in Kenyan Public Universities: An Analysis of the Maseno and Nairobi Universities"    

 

Owino Eunice Adhiambo holds an MA in Rural Sociology and Community Development in December 2008 at the University of Nairobi. Presently, she is the Head of Career Counseling Department St Theresa's Girls Secondary and a Part Time Lecturer at the Institute of Community Development and the Teacher's commission in Nairobi. She has been a part time Trainer for AMREF in their Department of HIV/AIDS and she has participated in several live talk shows like the "Date Rape Talk Show." She also presented a picture presentation on FGM in Lima Peru during the IASSCS 6th Conference 2007.

Siso Jared Maaka holds an MA in Medical Anthropology from the University of Nairobi where he presently works as a Junior Research Fellow and PhD student.

Project Title: "Lived Experiences of PLWHAS with Patient Support Centre Services In Kisii District of South Western Kenya"

 

Jeremy Mirie holds a Bachelors degree in Anthropology and an MA in Clinical Anthropology from the University of Nairobi. Presently, he is the Programme Co coordinator for GALEBITRA- KENYA and a consultant for Cardinal Acil and Australian agency for health in Africa. Prior to this he was a Programme Officer for HIV/AIDS at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and also an Institutional Advisor at the Yayasan Cinta Kehudupan Love Life Foundation, Java Indonesia.

Project Title: "Promoting Greater Understanding Of Sexual Health Policy Needs For Men Who Have Sex With Men (MSM) In Access To HIV/AIDS care , Prevention And Treatment Programme In Kenya Through Provincial Survey"

 

Luckett Nothemba Kate holds an honors Bachelor of Social Science degree in Psychology from the University of Cape Town. Presently, she is a Researcher and Advocacy Worker at the Center For Early Childhood Development in Cape Town. She has worked as a Research Assistant on gender based violence and also as a Critical Psychology Tutor at the University of Cape Town where here research interests include gender, sexuality, class, epistemology and socialism.

Precious Bupe Sibeso Mubiana holds an Honours Degree with majors in Psychology, Criminology and Philosophy from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She is currently an MA Research Psychology Intern at UNISA Center for Applied Psychology. Prior to that, she was a Research Interventionist and Assistant Research at the University of Pretoria in conjunction with Florida University, USA. She was also a Tutor at the University of Pretoria in the Department of Psychology for two years.

Buthelezi Buyile Celiwe holds a BTech degree in Marketing from the University of South Africa. Presently, she is a Program Coordinator at Ipas South Africa Office and this has involved him in different communities with regards to women's lives, reproductive health and rights.

Project Title:"An Assessment of Home Based care for PLWHA in Mpumalanga, South Africa"

 

Juliana Davids is a final year student at the University of the Western Cape. At present, she works for Engender Health, on a program called "Men as Partners" which focuses on involving men in reproductive health issues.
